because tonight was beautiful

did anyone else notice all that lightning tonight? it just kept flashing and flashing but never made a sound. like movie war scenes on mute. heat lightning maybe?

Maybe Nothing

tonight i was walking through cold
puddles in my sandals,
hands tucked in pockets,
thinking of icecream.
but there are people
in the bright neon ice-
cream shop,
softball teams and
nuclear families
and sugar-free chocolate yogurt
with fudge or sprinkles or
maybe pecans on top
or maybe nothing.
and i think i'll wait
just beyond the flickering flourescent
immitation light,
standing in the cool shadows
in wet sandals,
breathing in the crisp quiet
of a night with no moon
and no clouds and no noise
and no people and no icecream
and everything i want.
